Travelling With Your Dog To Cyprus, What Owners Need To Know

Dogs travelling to or entering Cyprus
If you are travelling with a dog to Cyprus, there is usually no quarantine required as long as the correct entry requirements are met. Before travelling, make sure your dog has proper identification, valid vaccination records, and the required travel documents.Microchip and pet passport
Your dog must be microchipped with an ISO 11784/11785 compliant 15 digit microchip. The microchip should be implanted before the rabies vaccination, because the vaccination must be linked to your dog’s identification.A tattoo may only be accepted if it was given before 3 July 2011, is clearly visible, and your dog was vaccinated against rabies after the tattoo was applied.Rabies vaccination
Your dog must have proof of a valid rabies vaccination. The rabies vaccine must be given after the microchip has been implanted. Cyprus accepts valid rabies vaccinations, including 3 year rabies vaccines when they are used correctly according to the manufacturer’s instructions. It is also strongly recommended that dogs are vaccinated against Canine Distemper, Infectious Hepatitis, Parvovirus, and Leptospirosis.Rabies titer test
A rabies titer test may be required if your dog is entering or re entering Cyprus from outside the EU.Your dog must usually wait at least 30 days after the rabies vaccination before the blood sample is taken. The sample must be sent to an approved laboratory, and results may take several weeks.Because rules can vary depending on the country you are travelling from, it is important to check the latest requirements before you travel.Tapeworm treatment
Before travelling, your dog may need tapeworm treatment recorded in the correct section of the pet passport. This is normally done by a veterinarian within the required time window before departure or entry. The treatment is usually given as a tablet based on your dog’s body weight. It is a good idea to book a vet visit a few days before travel so your dog can have a final check and the passport can be reviewed.Health certificate
The type of health certificate your dog needs depends on the travel situation.Requirements may be different if your dog is travelling with you, travelling separately, being sold, purchased, or transferred to a new owner. If you are travelling outside the EU, you should check the rules of the destination country before leaving Cyprus. You may also need to contact the country’s embassy or the Government Veterinary Services of Cyprus.Important reminder
Pet travel rules can change, and requirements may differ depending on the country you are travelling from or to.Before booking your flight, speak with your vet and check the official travel requirements so your dog’s documents are correct and up to date.Source
